The current school officially opened in 1968 and replaced the school in Musgrave Street (now Hucklehoven Way) which opened in 1877. The original school also had a cookery school built onto it in 1883 but this moved to Park Road in 1894. In 1902, the old cookery premises became a school for children with learning difficulties.
