This school opened in 1857 and closed in 1938. Children were transferred to Exchange School and the building became the Art College.It was destroyed by fire in 1966.
Looking towards Christ Church from Stockton Street probably in the early 1900s. Christ Church is in the centre, the Municipal Buildings on the left and the shops and Masonic Lodge on the right. THe only building no longer there is Church Square School which is at the end of the right hand terrace.
More detail »Church Square School closed in 1938 and became the premises used as Hartlepool Art College. In 1966 the building was completely destroyed by fire and rebuilt as a custom made art college. It has since been added to, parts rebuilt and extended and is now the CAAD (Cleveland Art and Design) College.
