The present Cosmopolitan Hotel was rebuilt from an older hotel on the site in 1885 taking in two cottages. In the 1870s, it was also used as stores for the Brunswick Brewery.

Part of the Hartlepool Museum Service collectionThe image shows landlord Christopher (Kit) Measor who was publican from 1925 to his death in 1948. A veteran of both the Boer War and World War 1, this Hartlepool native took a keen interest in local affairs and events in particular Rovers Rugby Club and the British Legion.
