The Grand Hotel opened in 1899 and was originally a British Railway Hotel .
Players and guests enjoying the post-match Dinner at the Grand Hotel in Swainson Street, held to mark the 65th Anniverysary of the founding of the Barbarians Rugby Club in 1890in Hartlepool, when Rovers were their first opposition.
A special match was held at the New Friarage between the Barbarians and Rovers and the teams, officials and guests held a Dinner at the Grand to round off an historic day.

More detail »For many years, Hartlepool had a vibrant Caledonian Society and every year on the 25th January a Burns Dinner was held in the Grand Hotel ballroom.

More detail »Taken in 1967 by Robert Wood, the image shows the Grand Hotel on the right and in front on the far right is the back of Binns store. Ward Street was parallel to Binns and one side of the road shared a back street with the store. The Austin van in the centre is parked in Swainson Street although the buildings have been cleared to make way for the shopping centre. The cenotaph can also be seen on the picture.

More detail »The parade along Victoria Road for the Mayor's Sunday.The photograph has been taken from a window of the Grand Hotel showing opposite to the left far side Gray Peverell's shop next to which is a small cafe and creamery owned by Mr. W. A. Harrison. The houses further along were mainly business premises e.g. coal merchants, upholsterers,dentists,photographers.This section was built in three stages which later became Binns Department Store and was the reason Binns building was made in three different types of architecture. The Tramcar in the parade was number 10 and new in 1897. Police in uniform can be seen leading the parade followed by the Mayor and other officials. c 1913.
